SCIP has been manufacturing cutlery and wine accessories since 1850 in Thiers, the capital for traditional fine cutlery in central France. Laguiole (pronounced lag-YALL) is a type of knife that originated as a shepard's tool and weapon. The emperor Napoleon bestowed is emblem (the bee, symbol of industriousness) for its quality. Unfortunatly the name Laguiole is public domain and has been abused and used for items that are not of the quality and sometimes not even related to the unique knives that mad it famous.
